Why Use a Matched Quad of 5881 Amplifier Valves?
In a guitar amplifier with four output valves (e.g. a matched quad of 5881), in simple terms two valves are pushing the speaker cone and two are pulling it. In an amp with two output valves, the same applies but the amp has half the power.
