ECC82 Valves
The ECC82 (12AU7) preamp valve has a lower voltage gain than the ECC83 (12AX7). This makes it suitable for use in audio as a driver and phase-inverter in guitar amplifiers.
It can also be used to reduce the gain by 50% by using it vin place of an existing ECC83. It will reduce the gain and get your volume knob off number 1 but the good news is it won’t “colour” the tone of your amp in any way.
The reason this valve is used so much is because it’s actually two identical valves in one. So amplifier designers can get two stages of amplification using just one valve. This is important because it reduces the space needed to house the electronic hardware inside the guitar amplifier.
We stock both JJ Electronics and Electro Harmonix ECC82 (12AU7).
We offer them as standard valves for pre-amplification or balanced valves if you are going to use them in the phase inverter position.
