About the Marshall JCM900 4102 amplifier:

The Marshall JCM900 4102 is the 2 x 12” cab version of the Marshall JCM900 4100 head.

(The JCM900 4101 is the 1 x 12” version)

This 100w tube combo can be fitted with either EL34 or 5881. It comes supplied with 5881 as standard and this is the preferred valve set for this amp.

The Marshall JCM900 4102 has a single input and one non-switchable effects loop with adjustable level. There are 2 speaker output jacks (8ohm and 4/16 ohms), one direct line output and one with amp simulation.

On the front panel, The Marshall JCM900 4102 has a clean gain, a drive gain, an EQ (bass/mid/treble/presence), volume and reverb level per channel and that’s it (which is more than enough).

The speakers used are the lovely Celestion G12T75.

The Marshall JCM900 4102 in use:

The clean sound can crunch gently and be even a little biting, but that’s certainly not its main utility. This amp is well suited to the big rock, stoner, punk, but not to extreme metal, not without external “help” – that is a little bit of help anyway.

A pretty tight clean sound and a drive channel that doesn’t have huge amounts of gain (a typical Marshall characteristic).

The EQ isn’t the best in the World and I would strongly suggest you add a pedal here. Inserting a good quality EQ pedal in the effects loop will really change the sound. Clean sounds will give you all the flavours you could ever ask for.
