Blackstar Artisan 15
Valves for Blackstar Artisan 15 amplifier.
The Blackstar Artisan 15 Combo and the Artisan 15H head use the following 6 valves to achieve their amazing tone:
- 1 x ECC83 (also known as a 12AX7) preamp valve.
- 1 x balanced ECC83 for the phase splitter position.
- 2 x EL84 matched power valves.
- 1 x EF806 (EF86) valve.
- 1 x EZ81 rectifier valve.
This carefully selected valve kit has been put together specifically for this Blackstar amplifier. It features five premium-grade JJ valves and one Svetlana EF86.
If you find the amp is a little bit louder than you would like and need to reduce the gain, we recommend using a 12AY7 in the V1 position. That’s the valve closest to the input jack. You will see this valve is listed in the options as an additional valve you can add to your basket.

About the Blackstar Artisan 15 amplifier:
What an amp this is. In triode mode the tone is round and bluesy with a mellow top end. The triode mode also has the benefit of producing more saturated distortion tones at lower output levels.
The pentode mode produces a more dynamic feel and is louder and more punchy than the triode mode. This setting is recommended for dynamic clean sounds and more pushy sounding crunch tones. So this is a perfect setting for both rehearsals and smaller gigs.
The Artisan 15 also allows the blending of the two channels. By paralleling the guitar connection to the inputs of Channel 1 and Channel 2 endless tonal variations are available.
Use the hi input if you wish to achieve power amplifier break-up and overdrive. Use the lo input if you wish the amplifier to remain clean. So this feature is really useful if your guitar has high output pick-ups.
