Looking for the best valves for your Orange Dual Terror?
What Valves Does The Orange Dual Terror Amplifier Use?
The Orange Dual Terror uses:
- 2 x Selected Premium Grade JJ ECC83 (also called 12AX7).
- 2 x Selected Premium Grade JJ Balanced ECC83 for phase splitter positions V2 and V4.
- 4 x Selected Premium Grade JJ EL84 matched power valves/power tubes.
NOTE: V1 is the ECC83 valve closest to the input jack.
We always recommend JJ tubes for the Orange Dual Terror amplifier. This is because they guarantee awesome tone and long valve life at a very competitive price. Remember that JJ is one of only five manufacturers of valves in the world. So don’t pay more for the exact same valves in a rebranded box.
You can buy valves as singles, the power valves as a matched quad or a complete kit. However, it is always recommended that you swap all your valves at the same time. So bring back the power and sparkle to your amp with a brand new set of valves.
Unlike many amplifiers, this amp does not need to be biased when you change your power valves.

About the Orange Dual Terror amp:
The Dual Terror is a twin channel, 30-watt head switchable from 30 to 15 or 7 watts. This gives more choice and options all shrunk down into an amp size that belies its power. It is cathode biased, meaning you do not need to re-bias the amp when you change your power valves.
Most of the appeal of the Orange amplifiers lies in their simplicity of features and ease of use. The Dual Terror expands slightly on the usual minimalistic Orange design. It does this by adding a second channel; the Dual Terror has both a Fat and a Tiny Terror channel.
So this 30 watt Class A dual-channel amp incorporates the unique Tiny Terror channel and a new ‘Fat Channel’ bringing a new ‘fatter’ chunkier sound, whilst keeping the classic Tiny Terror sound.
The power options make this a truly versatile amp. It’s capable of dominating at bigger venues and subtle enough to be perfect for recording, studio work and home playing. The quad of EL84 output tubes is run in a Class A configuration to provide 30 watts.
Switchable between 30, 15 and 7 watts and switchable between 4 and 2 output valves, the combinations of options provide for unmatched levels of performance and flexibility.
Overall Impression: The song remains the same with the Dual Terror amp. In an age of outsourcing and cutting corners, Orange consistently delivers the same rugged, reliable amps that it did forty years ago. The fuzzed-out tones that it delivers remain as a staple in the world of rock. So, stripped of its classic Orange covering the Dual Terror promises to lead the way into a bright new future of classic Orange amplifier sound.
