Description

Best replacement valve kit for Mesa Boogie Mark II 60w amplifiers

This replacement valve kit for the Mesa Boogie Mark II, Mark IIb, Mark IIc and Mark IIc+ 60w will get your amplifier sounding better than ever. These superior-quality valves will give you a significant upgrade in both tone and power. This superior kit comprises:

  • 3 x Selected Premium Grade JJ ECC83 preamp valve (also called 12AX7).
  • 1 x Selected Premium Grade JJ Balanced ECC83 for the phase inverter in position V5.
  • 1 x Selected Premium Grade JJ ECC81 (12AT7) for the reverb (but please see note below as this can change).
  • 2 x Selected Premium Grade JJ Matched 6L6GC power valves/power tubes.

Note: The balanced ECC83 goes in the V5 position which is the preamp valve furthest from your input jack.

A word of warning. There are literally dozens of variations of valves used on the Mark II so you must check what is inside your amp before you place your order. Here are some of the common variations to look for:

  • Some use an ECC83/12AX7 for the reverb in position V4 while others use an ECC81/12AT7.
  • Some are 60w/100w switchable and will need 4 x 6L6GC power valves.
  • Some of the later models are simulcast and will use both 6L6GC and EL34 power valves.

Please check your amp before you order and give us a call if you any doubt.

These valves are carefully selected and graded and are the perfect replacement for Mesa valves. The amp does not need to be re-biased.

We always recommend JJ tubes for this amplifier. This is because they offer a superb tone at a very attractive price. We think these are the best valves/tubes for this amplifier. You can order these singly or the power valves as matched pairs but it is always recommended that you change them all at the same time if you possibly can.

So treat yourself to a brand new set today. Restore the power and clarity of your Mesa Boogie guitar amplifier.

  1. Awesome tone. This is what matters most. The number one priority for any guitarist has to be the tone. Warm, rich, fat and juicy are the words that best describe the sound from these valves.
  2. Sustained valve/tube power to make the most of every stage in the amplifier chain. It is the balance between volume and tone that distinguishes a great valve from a mediocre valve.
  3. Long valve/tube life.  Guitar amps by their very nature have to be built to take a lot of knocks. This is also particularly important when it comes to the amplifier valves themselves.

About this amp.

There were four versions of this 60w amp between 1978 and 1985.

The original Mark II was launched as the first gyuitar amp offering channel switching. It was followed in 1980 by the Mark IIb (and the original was known henceforth as the Mark IIa).

The Mark IIc followed in 1983. This was quickly updated the following year with only 1,400 models released. It’s replacement, the Mark IIc+ would last until 1985 and is now one of the most sought after amps on the second hand market.
