About the Hughes and Kettner Switchblade TSC100 guitar amplifier.
Hughes & Kettner’s inceptive AS64 amp was a fully programmable, solid-state combo featuring digital effects and a built-in MIDI interface. It took another twenty years until they produced their first fully programmable valve amp – the Switchblade.
The neat trick was to replace the pots found on conventional tube amps with programmable resistor networks. So each of these rotary controls consists of 256 individual resistors in a serial array. This produces 256 switches! They also added memory with the ability to recall every switch’s position.
