The Vox AC10C1 amplifier uses:

• 1 x ECC83 (also known as a 12AX7) preamp valve (V2)
• 1 x Balanced ECC83 for the phase splitter position (V3)
• 2 x  matched EL84 power valves/power tubes (V1 and V4)

The balanced valve goes in what Vox call the V3 position, which, of the two preamp valves, is the one furthest from the input jack. Note, this amp only has two preamp valves, one in V2 and one in V3 on the circuit diagram (see layout below). That might sound odd but it’s because the first valve in the chain on this amp is solid state.
