About the Laney Cub 10 amp:
I think the team at Laney underplay this Laney Cub 10 amp so it won’t interfere with sales of their CUB12 version (which sells for twice the price). Yet the Cub12 yet offers only a spring reverb, a 12-inch speaker, and tone controls for the £200 typical price difference.
For £300 you could buy a VHT or Jet City of the same general design; but why bother? The Laney Cub 10 is being advertised as a 10-watt amp. But we all know that two 6V6 valves in push-pull will provide the same power output as two EL84 valves.
The Laney Cub 10 provides 15-watts power output just like the CUB12 (or the Fender Hot Rod for that matter).
The amp has a really warm, clean tone which in “Fender” fashion can be mildly overdriven for bluesy or crunch tones by the onboard gain control. The Laney Cub 10 also has an impressive 10-inch Celestion but with maybe a slightly limited high-frequency response if you were being picky. For this price, I would be! With its external speaker-out jack, it could easily drive a 4 x 12 half-stack.
So all in all, this Laney CUB 10 is very powerful, warm-sounding, quiet and well-constructed amplifier.
