The Fender Prosonic combo amplifier uses 9 valves in total as follows:

4 x ECC83 preamp valves (also called 12AX7).
1 x ECC81 (12AT7) for the reverb driver (in position V4)
1 x Balanced ECC83 for the phase inverter (V6).
2 x 5881 matched power valves/power tubes.
1 x GZ34 rectifier valve.

Note that the head version of this amp has two valves fewer as it has no reverb.

About this amp.

This is an all-tube 60w combo with 2 x 10″ Celestions. It was designed by the legendary Bruce Zinky. The Prosonic was a Fender Custom Shop attempt at producing a high-gain boutique amplifier. Very high build quality thanks to Zinky’s input. Production ran for 6 years from 1996 to 2002.

Valve positions and function.

V1 = input stage and third gain stage – ECC83

V2 = second gain stage and tone driver – ECC83

V3 = gain stage – ECC83

V4 = reverb send – ECC81

V5 = reverb return and mix – ECC83

V6 = phase inverter – Balanced ECC83 (you can also use an ECC81)

V7 and V8 = power valves – 2 x 5881

V9 = GZ34 Rectifier valve

Note: In the head version of this amp there are no reverb tubes, so V4 is the phase splitter.
