Replacement valve kit: About the Peavey 5150 amp.
The Peavey 5150 is an all-tube guitar amp made by Peavey Electronics from 1992 on. At the time of writing there are three versions, the MKI, MKII and the MKIII introduced in 2018.
Initially, it was a signature model for Eddie Van Hallen.
Since Van Halen and Peavey parted ways in 2004, they changed the name of the model to Peavey 6505, with Van Halen taking the 5150 name for his company, EVH, to name his EVH 5150 III amplifier. The 6505 was named in celebration of Peavey’s 40th anniversary (1965–2005).
Several aspects of this amplifier are responsible for its success. Its rigid construction and reliability, excellent frequency response (largely attributable to the vacuum tube amplification), and clarity with heavy gain.
The Peavey 5150 amp has become a staple of the modern metal movement since its conception back in 1991. Its superb chunkiness and smooth lead abilities make it the reliable go-to amp for metal-heads.
Peavey 5150: More Characteristics
They built the Peavey 5150 amp for high gain, wicked leads, and chugging rhythm. The amp has 2 main channels: Rhythm, and Lead. They obviously designed the overall tone of this amp for metal – blistering fast, metal.
Some people argue that this amp can’t generate clear cleans as some Marshall heads. They are right in some aspects.
In response to this, the MKII head version had one extra ECC83. This was added to reduce break up on the clean channel.
The MKI head has two guitar inputs and the MKII has only one guitar input.
