Description

Need a replacement valve kit for your Fender Concert Reverb amplifier?

This replacement valve kit for Fender Concert Reverb amplifiers will get your amplifier sounding better than ever. These superior quality valves will give you a significant upgrade in both tone and power. The best value for money amplifier valves on the market today. This superb JJ valve kit comprises:

  • 5 x ECC83 (also called 12AX7) preamp valves.
  • 1 x ECC81 (12AT7) for position V3.
  • 1 x balanced ECC81 for the phase splitter position (V7).
  • 2 x 6L6GC matched power valves/power tubes.

The V1 position is the one closest to the input jack and V7 is closest to the power valves.

We always recommend JJ valves for this amplifier. This is because they offer a superb tone at a very attractive price. We think these are the best valves/tubes for this amplifier. You can order these amplifier valves singly or as matched pairs but it is always recommended that you change all your valves at the same time if you possibly can. JJ is one of only five manufacturers of valves in the world. So it does not make sense to pay more money for rebranded versions of the same valves.

So treat yourself to a brand new set of gorgeous sounding valves today.

  1. The number one priority for any Fender owner has to be the tone. Warm, rich, fat and juicy are the words that best describe the sound from these valves.
  2. Sustained valve/tube power to make the most of every stage in the amplifier chain. It is the balance between volume and tone that distinguishes a great valve from a mediocre valve.
  3. Long valve/tube life.  Guitar amps by their very nature have to be built to take a lot of knocks. This is also particularly important when it comes to the amplifier valves themselves.

This amp was originally made between 1960 and 1965. It had 4 x 10″ speakers made by either Jenson or Oxford. There is some variation within the circuit itself as model updates were made.  Starting with the 5G12 (late 1959 to early 1960) the 6G12 (late 1960 to early 1961) and the 6G12-A  (1962 to 1963).

Production of the Fender Concert amplifier can be split over 2 phases. The first of these from 1960 and until 1965. During this period, the Concert was essentially the same amplifier as the Vibrasonic but with four 10″ speakers.

The first models, the 5G12 made late 1959 to early 1960 had one less preamp valve so do check if yours is a very early model before you place your order.

In 1964 the Concert transitioned to the blackface circuit, which Fender labelled AB763.

The most significant of these updates occurred between the 5G12 which had only 5 preamp tubes and the 6G12 which had an extra tube for a more pronounced vibrato and more clean headroom. Ironically, the earlier distortion point of the 5G12 was considered a design flaw but it became very desirable over the decades that followed.

The Concert was updated by Paul Riviera in the early 1980s  and was known as the “Concert II”.
