Valves for Peavey 5150 212 combo

Peavey 5150 212 Combo MKI & MKII

Best valves for Peavey 5150 212 Combo MK I and MK II.

The Peavey 5150 212 MKI Combo amplifier uses:

  • 4 x ECC83 preamp valves (also called 12AX7).
  • 1 x Balanced ECC83 for the phase inverter (in position V5).
  • 2 x 6L6GC matched power valves/power tubes.

Note: The balanced ECC83 goes in the V5 position which is the preamp valve furthest from your input jack.

The Peavey 5150 212 MKII Combo amplifier uses:

  • 5 x ECC83 preamp valves (also called 12AX7).
  • 1 x Balanced ECC83 for the phase inverter (in position V5).
  • 2 x 6L6GC matched power valves/power tubes.

Note: As we all know, EVH and Peavey went their separate ways and when the MKIII version of this amp was released in 2018 it was in the EVH brand not the Peavey brand. You will find details of all the 5150 MKIII in our EVH section.

We always recommend JJ valves for this amplifier. This is because they guarantee you get awesome tone and long life and they don’t cost a fortune.

Remember, JJ is one of only five manufacturers in the world. So don’t pay higher prices for valves from the same factory that have simply been rebranded by other companies.

About these amps: Comparing the MKI and MKII

The 5105 MKII features an extra 12AX7 tube in the pre-amp stage. Apparently this is to prevent breakup in the clean channel. It has separate 3-band EQ, presence and resonance controls for the 2 channels. It also features only one input, unlike the MKI, which had two.

There are also bias test-points on the back of the amp.

The MKII, like the MKI is available as a 60 watt 1×12 combo. The internal circuitry is identical to that of the head, with exception of it using two instead of four 6L6GC power tubes an additional 3-spring reverb. The MKII is made in China to help cut manufacturing costs.
