About the amp
Built from 1955 to 1963.
An EF86 preamp tube gives the thing a robust front-end, and its high and low inputs are labelled “Solo” and “Rhythm” to better indicate their potential.
By the end of the ’50s, Watkins was one of the “big three” British amp makers, alongside Selmer and a rapidly-growing JMI/Vox. This was achieved through sales of the Clubman, Westminster, and Dominator models, but also thanks to one of Watkins’s other extremely successful creations – the Copicat tape echo unit released in ’58.
