What Valves Does The Laney Cub12 Amplifier Use?

This replacement valve kit for Laney Cub12, Cub12R and Super Cub12 amplifiers contains:

• 2 x Selected Premium Grade JJ ECC83 (also known as 12AX7).
• 1 x Selected Premium Grade JJ Balanced ECC83 for the phase inverter in position V3.
• 2 x Selected Premium Grade JJ EL84 matched power valves/power tubes.

We recommend JJ tubes for the Laney Cub12 amplifier. This is a significant upgrade in valve quality.

If you still have the original valves in your amp, the chances are they are Ruby valves. (Ruby do not manufacture valves but rebrand Chinese stock in their name).

About the Laney CUB12 amp:

Straight ahead vintage tone of the Laney CUB12 in a small package with simple controls.

The Laney CUB12 houses a 12″ driver, giving it an increased volume and full rich valve tone. Looking at the preamp it’s clear that the Laney CUB12 packs more into the amp than its smaller siblings. The Laney Cub 12 features Gain, Treble, Middle, Bass, Volume, Tone and Reverb controls. The output section of the Laney CUB 12 is based around a pair of EL84 tubes giving it a more scooped tone than its smaller counterparts. Think smooth rich overdrive with bags of gain.

The Laney CUB12 features two input sockets one labelled 15W the other labelled less than one watt. Plug into the “less than one watt” and the Laney CUB12 delivers great tube tone at a whisper. The less-than-one-watt option on the Laney CUB12 allows you to drive the power amp section really hard allowing you to really access the “dark art” tone of power amp distortion.

Designed and engineered in Great Britain, the amp delivers 15 watts power and tone via a pair of EL84 power tubes. In addition, a less than 1-watt power option can be used, giving the same power tube tone at lower volume levels. Using 3 x ECC83 pre-amp tubes the CUB12R goes from warm cleans to rich crunch.

• 3 x ECC83 preamp tubes and 2 x EL84 power tubes. One of the preamp valves should be balanced for the V3 position.
