About the Peavey Classic 20 Amplifier.
The Peavey Classic 20 amp is a fantastic 5/20W practice amp.
Here is what one reviewer says:
“There’s just something about a Class A tube amp, isn’t there? The smoothness of the overdrive, the way they react to your touch. In fact, every time I have thought that I needed a new “larger” amp, I have come to the same conclusion: the Peavey Classic 20 is all I need.
I play largely at bedroom volumes, so I don’t need a lot of wattage, so this amp is perfect. It has a single 10-inch Peavey Blue Marvel speaker. It’s no Celestion, but it’s held up well and sounds good to me. The 10-inch speaker lacks some of the low-end whoomph of a 12-inch speaker, but it’s pop and quick bite make up the difference. At times I think I might like to have a couple of 12-inch speakers, but this amp has an extension speaker jack, so that wouldn’t be too much of a problem.
The overdrive is rich and creamy, but I can clean it up with the volume knob, or simply by varying my pick attack, and it sounds great regardless of which of my guitars I am using at the time. I used to use a friend’s Epiphone though it, and it was money: dirty, with headroom and lots of sustain.
You’ll notice I didn’t say “distortion”, that’s on purpose – you’d need to drive it with something to get up into modern metal-type gain. The few times I have tried, it sucked the bottom end out of the amp, and I simply gave up on the concept. Proceed with caution. Tube replacements have brought out some better and more full overdrive.”
