Replacement Valve Kit For Laney LC15R: About the amp.
The Laney LC15R combo amp sets the standard. So it may look like a baby, but it sounds like a real mother. 15 watts RMS of pure EL84 tone into a 10″ Custom designed driver produces beautiful pure valve tone. The LC15R uniquely combines a pre/post gain control, which allows you to get great sparkling clean tones. With full-on, out and out gain or any point in between by simply turning a single rotary control.
The Laney LC15R all-valve amp has been in production for around 16 years. Up until around 2002, it came with a 10″ HH invader driver and post 2002 with a 10″ Celestion speaker. Considering it is only 15 watts this amp is amazingly loud.
So how does the LC15R version compare with the standard LC15? Well, this model has a superb spring reverb, an fx loop and a speaker cab output. So I think that is well worth the extra money. The LC15R combo uniquely combines a pre/post gain control. This means you get great sparkling clean tones, full-on, out & out gain or any point in between. All of this is achieved with one single rotary control.
Combine all this tonal flexibility with an Accutronics reverb, an FX loop and an external speaker socket. You can also run an LC15R into a Laney 4 x 12 cabinet and really boost the sound level.
Reviews of the Laney LC15R
“I just took delivery of a used/like new Laney LC15r 1×10 combo amp. This one is about 1 year old. So I was in the market for something small and compact with a good clean/dirty sound. How unusual huh… because at one time I had a Peavey Classic 20, Carvin V16 and have played a Fender Pro/Blues Jr, Dr Z Mini and a Gibson Les Paul Jr amp.
Of all these amps the Laney seems to excel over all these in regard to price, features and tone. I’m surprised this little guy isn’t talked about more. The reverb is so, so but what would you expect for a relatively inexpensive amp? The drive is nice and crunchy and does not get fizzy even dimed and surprisingly the cleans sound pretty good through the single 10″ Celestion. For those in the market for a small good sounding/looking lower wattage combo you should definitely check one out if you can.”
