Marshall DSL 40c

Marshall DSL40C

Valves for Marshall DSL40C amplifier.

The Marshall DSL40C (and DSL40CR) amplifiers use:

  • 3 x ECC83 preamp valves (also called 12AX7).
  • 1 x Balanced ECC83 in the phase splitter position (V4).
  • 2 x EL34 matched power valves/power tubes.

We offer two superb valve kits for the Marshall DSL40C and DSL40CR amplifier. The DSL40CR replaced the DSL40 C in 2018 but they both use the exact same valve kit.

You can choose between Marshall EL34 power valves or JJ EL34 power valves. If you currently have Marshall power valves in your amp and love the sound then this is the set for you.

Many of our customers like the JJ power valves and they are also available as a set. Both sets use JJ preamp valves.

You can order these valves singly, as matched pairs or a complete kit. However, we strongly urge you to change all your valves at the same time. It’s the cheapest way of getting your amp sounding its very best.

So get your amp sounding better than ever. Treat yourself to a brand new set of valves today.

About the Marshall DSL40C amp:

The Marshall DSL40C is a 40W combo released by Marshall in 2012. In 2016 it was the third biggest selling amp (Source: Reverb). It has an intuitive layout with two channels, classic gain and ultra gain with two voicings per channel.

The classic gain channel has clean and crunch and the ultra gain channel has lead 1 and lead 2. So each of the four voices across the two channels makes up the gain spectrum. So you get everything from sparkling clean to massive modern metal gain, all in one amp.

EQ:

The overall EQ section has the standard Treble, Mid and Bass, Tone Shift, Presence and Resonance. Tone shift scoops the mid. Presence pushes the higher frequencies even higher. Resonance works the same on the low notes and seems to add more low-frequency gain.

Two reverbs, one for each channel completes the front panel. On the rear, there is a switch to cut the power by half by moving from Pentode to Triode mode.

So the purpose of this switch is to allow the amp to break up at lower volume settings. Then there is a foot-switch out and also a send and return for the series loop along with a switch to turn this on or off. In addition, there are also three speaker outputs.
