Best valves for Marshall JCM800 Super Bass MKII 100w amplifiers

Marshall JCM800 Super Bass MKII 100w

Best valves for Marshall JCM800 Super Bass Series MKII 100w amplifiers.

The Marshall JCM800 Super Bass Series amplifier uses 2 x ECC83 (also called 12AX7) preamp valves, 1 x Balanced ECC83 for the phase inverter (in position V3) and 4 x EL34 matched power valves/power tubes.

Note: Due to the shortage of EL34 valves around the time of production, some of these amps were fitted with 5881 power valves instead. If this is the case you will normally find a sticker on the inside of the amp that advises you of this. Best to take a quick look inside your amp before placing an order.

A brand new set of valves will get your amp sounding better than ever.

We always recommend JJ valves for this amplifier. This is because they guarantee you get awesome tone and long life and they don’t cost a fortune.

Remember, JJ is one of only five manufacturers of valves in the world. So don’t pay higher prices for valves from the same factory that have simply been rebranded by other companies.

About the amp

The JCM 800 Series was launched in 1981. As the name suggests it was not one amp but a complete series comprising both lead and bass amps. As mentioned above, the standard power valve set fitted was 4 x EL34, but some amps were fitted with 4 x 5881 power valves instead. So take a quick look inside your amp before ordering.
