valves for Fender Super-Sonic 22

Fender Super-Sonic 22

Valves for Fender Super-Sonic 22 amplifiers.

The Fender Super-Sonic 22 amplifier, both the head and combo models, use:

  • 3 x ECC83 preamp valves (also called 12AX7). These go in positions V1, V2 and V4.
  • 2 x ECC81 (12AT7) preamp valves (one of which is balanced for the phase inverter in position V5).
  • 2 x 6V6S matched power valves/power tubes.

Over time your valves will lose their tone and their power. A brand new set of valves will get your amp sounding like new again.

We always recommend JJ valves for Fender Super-Sonic 22 amplifiers. This is because they deliver awesome tone, power and long life – and they don’t cost a fortune.

Remember, JJ is one of only five valve manufacturers in the world. So don’t pay higher prices for valves from the same factory that have simply been rebranded by other companies.

Additional Technical Note: Do you have a problem with hiss on the reverb?

If you suffer from hiss or noise on the reverb, some owners have found that the reverb cable has been routed too close to the power transformer. Rerouting it away from the transformer will completely solve this problem.

Noise problems with Fender Super-sonic 22?

If you play these amps live they are great, but if you just use it in a bedroom at low volume you may find the hiss, channel switching clicks and background noise a bit annoying. This is not something that can be rectified.
