About the TUSC amp

Tusc amplifiers were first produced in 1981. They were originally based in Central Islip, New York, and run by Craig Frey. Apparently, the company started out as Plush, then it became Earth Sound Research, finally, it emerged as TUSC

The DF-100 was rated at 100 watts and came as either a combo or in head format. While these amps used a tube phase inverter and 4 x 6L6 power valves in the output stage, what made the amp unique was a programmable front end. The amp could store and recall some gain and EQ settings for channel 2.

Remember this was back in the ’80s so this amp was well ahead of its time.

Many of the components were purchased from Qualtrol Electronics, a military subcontractor based in the area. Qualtrol had previously built Earth Sound Research amps, and they liquidated the stock when that company folded.

Unfortunately, the company only lasted a few years (1981-1983). Towards the end, it relocated to New Jersey and produced the DF-55. Like the DF-100 this is an equally rare amp.
