Valves for Mesa Boogie DC2 amplifier.

The Mesa Boogie Studio Caliber DC2 amplifier uses:

5 x ECC83 (also called 12AX7) preamp valves.
1 x Balanced ECC83 for the phase splitter position V6.
2 x EL84 matched power valves/power tubes.

Note: The balanced preamp valve goes in V6 which is the one furthest from the input jack and closest to the power valves.

Over time your valves will lose their tone and their power. A brand new set of valves will get your amp sounding like new again.

Mesa tubes versus JJ tubes.

Mesa insists that you always put their own brand tubes in your Mesa amp. You have to smile because, as we all know, Mesa doesn’t make tubes. They simply buy them from the main tube manufacturers (of which JJ is one), rebrand them and sell them at a much higher cost.

During the warranty period if a tube blows then it is worth buying Mesa tubes to keep our warranty valid. After that period you would have to question why it is worth paying a much higher price for an identical valve you can buy much cheaper from the original manufacturer.

Our JJ EL84 power tubes are perfectly matched and chosen for this amplifier so you will not need to re-bias your amplifier. The bias is equivalent to what Mesa call an EL84 Green. Not too hot, not too cold but right in the middle.
