Marshall Class Five Vintage Combo

Valves for Marshall Class 5 Vintage Combo.

The Marshall Class 5 Vintage Combo amplifier uses:

  • 1 x ECC83 preamp valve (also known as 12AX7).
  • 1 x Balanced ECC83 for the phase inverter in position V2.
  • 1 x EL84 power valve/power tube.

Other variations in the Class 5 range (like the Limited Edition) all use the same valve set.

If you find that your Class 5 is too loud you can replace the first ECC83 with a 12AY7. This will reduce the gain of the preamp stage and reduce the overall volume.

Over time your valves will lose their tone and their power. A brand new set of valves will get your amp sounding like new again.

We always recommend Sovtek or JJ valves for the Marshall Class 5 Vintage Combo amplifier. This is because they guarantee you get awesome tone and long life and they don’t cost a fortune. So don’t pay higher prices for valves from the same factory that have simply been rebranded by other companies.

Order your valves below and hear the difference.

So restore the tone, the power and the sparkle to your guitar amplifier. Treat yourself to a brand new set of valves today.

About the Marshall Class Five Vintage Combo:

This amp was significantly upgraded in 2011. Thicker plywood, different positioning of the valves to make access easier, speaker upgrade to Celestion to name a but a few. Earlier models sometimes suffered from rattles which is one of the main reasons for some of the changes.

This is a Limited Edition Marshall Class 5 Vintage Combo guitar amp. Manufactured in the UK it was produced in very limited numbers. Featuring two ECC83 preamp valves and a single EL84 in the power section it delivers pure tube tones. The original version was created with the Bluesbreaker in mind.

The Marshall Class 5 Vintage Combo in Black is great for both recordings and for home use. In fact, mic it up, you could use it on stage as well. There are a lot of low-power valve amps on the market right now. Few can boast the excellent tone of this little amp though.

Despite these basic controls Class 5 Vintage Combo is surprisingly versatile. At lower volumes the clean tones are excellent. Pumping up the volume a little will quickly put you into crunch territory. Pushing it further again delivers excellent lead tones. There are many ways to control the Class 5 other than the controls on the top of the amp.

If you back off the volume on your guitar itself the amp will start to clean up nicely. As this is the combo version you get a built-in speaker. So a lovely 10-inch Custom Celestion G10F-15 has been fitted (from 2011) which sounds marvelous.
