Valves for Fender 68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb Reissue.

Released in 2014, the Fender 68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb Reissue amplifier uses 9 valves:

  • 4 x ECC83 (also called 12AX7) preamp valves.
  • 1 x ECC81 (12AT7) preamp valve for the reverb driver in position V3.
  • 1 x Balanced ECC81 for the Phase Splitter in position V6.
  • 1 x GZ34 (5AR4) Rectifier valve.
  • 2 x 6L6GC matched power valves/power tubes.

However, we notice that the very latest versions of this amp does not have a rectifier valve so we also offer a kit without that valve included. Do check your amp before you place an order.

Also note, the 1995 to 2013 Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb, uses a slightly different set of preamp valves (basically one more ECC83 in place of an ECC81). Again, do check your amp before ordering.

Preamp Valve layout for 2014+ versions

The valve layout for the preamp valves of the Fender Vibrolux Reverb Reissue are as follows.

V1: ECC83 – first gain stage for channel 1.
V2: ECC83 – first gain stage for channel 2.
V3: ECC81 – reverb driver.
V4. ECC83 – first gain stage for channel 2 and reverb return.

About the Fender 68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb Reissue:

1968 was something of a transitional year from a design perspective for Fender. Its new ‘Silverface’ amps took on a new and futuristic look. They stood out because of the silver and turquoise front panel and a classy aluminium grille cloth front.

So this classic design period has been revived for the new ’68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb amplifier. It’s a 2 x 10 combo reissue based on the 1968 model. In addition, they’ve added some cool new features.

The beautiful aesthetic appeal of the original sits between ’68 custom versions of the 1 x 12 ‘68 Custom Deluxe Reverb and 2 x 12 ’68 Custom Twin Reverb amp.

It’s worth noting that like many good amps, this amp is heavy. So you’ll need to be pretty fit or employ a roadie!

  • Valves/Tubes: 4 x ECC83, 2 x ECC81; 2 x 6L6 power valve. Early versions have a GZ34 rectifier valve as well, later versions don’t –  so check before ordering.

  • Speakers: 2 x 10″ Celestion TEN 30.
  • Controls: Bright switch, volume, treble, bass (independent each channel). In addition, there’s also reverb, speed, and intensity (Vintage channel).
  • Dimensions: 18.13″ x 24.38″ x 9.63″
