About the amp:

Over the years, 1963-1980, the Fender Bandmaster amplifier came with many different circuits. The Blackface had a diode rectifier, one normal channel and a vibrato channel with no reverb.

Meanwhile, the Silverface Bandmaster came with GZ34 (5U4GB) valve rectifier and the vibrato channel came with reverb. Due to this the Silverface Bandmaster Reverb is less powerful and breaks up earlier than the blackface Bandmaster.

Later Silverface models were modified so that they were cleaner and more powerful. So if you have the 70W model from 1978, with master volume and push/pull boost, it has a huge power transformer and big filter caps.

Years of Production:

  • 1963 -1967 Blackface Bandmaster (circuits AB763).
  • 1968 -1975 Silverface Bandmaster (circuits AA763, AB763, AC568, TFC-5005).
  • 1968 -1978 Silverface Bandmaster Reverb (circuits AA768, AA568, AA1069, or TFL5005).
  • 1978 -1980 Silverface Bandmaster Reverb Master volume 45w and 70w
